The water is freezing and you’re dreading the moment it will touch your skin. But you know you gotta do it. You’ve wanted to for a while. The thought of making the first move lurks in the back of your mind. It makes you cringe. But you want to do it..
This is me trying to start a blog. I’ve been wanting to do it for about 4+ years. I’ve been thinking about all the details it would entail, making lists of what I want to write about, stressing about if I get followers; going between different ideas and then losing motivation only to revitalize it again. I finally realized that thinking too much was getting in the way of actually doing it. I just needed to jump!
It made me think about Lewis Pugh, a pioneer swimmer and marine-life activist, who was the first to swim across the North Pole. Looking at the picture above makes me cringe let alone if I thought of jumping in cold water. How did he do it??? It turns out, he did it to make a point; that the arctic ice is melting and we’re not giving it the attention it deserves. So what did he do? He swam through it to build publicity for awareness. He could have just skipped that idea because the water was too cold or sharks may attack while he swam. (Are there even sharks in the North Pole?). But he didn’t. He kept focused on the purpose. Focused. If I want to blog, I need to refocus my fears and target the purpose. I need to stop thinking and just start doing. So I am doing it! Here’s the first blog post. Next thing I have to do is keep blogging… a new challenge
PS – The purpose of this blog can be found here.
Do you have something productive you’ve been wanting to do for a while but your thinking gets in the way? Just do it.. don’t think.
